Parenting Training
Nurturing the Next Generation
Mpilonhle’s Hands on Parenting (HOP) Programme, in association with Soul City Institute, aims to equip parents with the necessary tools to form healthy and communicative relationships with their children.
Hands-On Parenting
Hands-On Parenting aims to equip parents and caregivers with the tools to understand and listen to their child, implement positive discipline, discuss sexuality, and address issues such as child abuse and substance abuse. HOP was developed through the Parent Centre, with each course co-facilitated by two Auxiliary Social Workers under the supervision of a Social Worker. The curriculum consists of 11 sessions, each lasting two hours, and concludes with a graduation ceremony.
Teen Parenting Programme
The Teen Parenting Programme is designed for young people aged 14 to 21 (male or female) who are parents or caregivers. It teaches positive parenting and life skills such as listening, discipline, and self-esteem. The programme is delivered by two Auxiliary Social Workers under the supervision of a Social Worker and facilitated by trainers from the Parent Centre. The curriculum includes 18 sessions, 2 evaluation sessions, and 2 administrative sessions.
What is The Parent Centre?
The Parent Centre was established as a primary prevention project to reduce the incidence of child abuse by promoting positive parenting and effective child management practices that enhance the well-being and self-esteem of both parents and children.
The project grew into a branch of the Cape Town Child Welfare Society and, in 1997, became an independent, registered non-profit organisation (NPO). For the past 40 years, The Parent Centre has been promoting positive parenting through various programmes and workshops. We collaborate with like-minded individuals and organisations to support parents in raising resilient and well-balanced children.
