Mpilonhle’s Role in COVID-19 Relief
Mpilonhle provided COVID-19-specific support to both the private sector, including South32 and Richards Bay Minerals, and to communities in the King Cetshwayo and Umkhanyakude districts.
COVID-19 Response
Funded by the Department of Public Works, Mpilonhle trained 174 community members to assist with the COVID-19 response in uMkhanyakude District. Their work included hygiene education, support at quarantine facilities, contact tracing, and patient triage.
In partnership with Richards Bay Minerals, Mpilonhle distributed food parcels to vulnerable households, working with local authorities to identify those most in need.
South32 COVID-19 Support
Mpilonhle provided 24-hour COVID-19 screening services for South32 employees, contractors, visitors, and deliveries. With a team of 58 staff, including professional nurses, temperature screeners, administrators, and drivers, up to 1,200 individuals were screened daily.
Additional services included work assessments for employees returning from sick leave or quarantine, data management, record keeping, and information sessions.
