Empowering Youth Through Conservation
Mpilonhle’s Environmental Education Programme (EEP) aims to teach local youth about the importance of environmental awareness and conservation.
Environmental Education Programme
Mpilonhle’s Environmental Education Programme (EEP) aims to raise environmental awareness among youth in a region rich in natural beauty and resources, where few people, children or adults, fully appreciate the need for conservation or the role of nature reserves in preserving our shared ecological heritage.
Curriculum
Mpilonhle developed a curriculum on conservation and ecology that combines classroom discussions with hands-on activities both indoors and in nature reserves. Teachers from grades K–7 at five participating schools were trained to effectively implement the curriculum, which complements and adds value to their existing course materials.
Field Trips
Learners in grades 5 to 7 take two annual trips in open vehicles (nine learners per trip, plus a chaperone) to nature reserves near their communities. These include the Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Game Reserve and Phinda Game Reserve.
